Be Your Best More Often Like “The Boss”
Bruce Springsteen started his music career in 1972 as a solo artist and in 1975 signed with Columbia Records. He has performed over 2600 concerts and the common theme for every one of them is, the fans would get the best version of “The Boss” every time.
Every fan would have their favourite Springsteen song. And if you were lucky enough to be in the audience, you would sing along as “The Boss” would play it as if it was for the first time. How many times has he sung “Born in the USA”? It doesn’t matter because the fans want it as if it is the first. They are not interested in the past. It is now that they expect 100%. The audience expect nothing less than his “best self”.
Showing up as your best self-more often, is a mindset challenge. There are expectations from the people you serve (fans) for you to be the person they want to follow, to lead or be inspired by.
However, your fans are not part of the other lives you contribute to. They don’t understand that you need to have trials and tribulations that can impact on you being your best self every time.
“The Boss” has had his fair share of life’s turmoil's as written in the New Yorker article titled “Bruce Springsteen at 62”. The article offers a unique glimpse into the life of the legendary rocker from New Jersey, including the fact that at the near peak of his career in the early 1980s, Bruce Springsteen was so depressed that he contemplated suicide.”
He could still show up as the best version of himself even though he was internally fighting some life demons. Fortunately, he sought help and through therapy immersed himself in healing strategies.
“The Boss” also has a regime of healthy exercise and nutritious diet to nurture his mind and body in the shape that allows him to serve his fans as they expect to be served.
As educators your fans are your students. They have daily expectations that you will inspire, grow, lead and inform them so they can be the best versions of themselves.
Each day you need to be the best version of you. It is a mindset challenge that can be conquered by instilling wellbeing strategies debilitating that nurture your body and mind.
Here are a few of many strategies to achieve this.
Make healthy food choices. Eat foods that are full of goodness like, vegetables, fruits and protein foods. Limit sugar and starchy carbohydrates.
Have a daily exercise routine that moves the body and heart. Integrate it into your lifestyle. Sacrifice working longer for walking longer.
Be 100% present when in the presence of your fans. Actively listen and act in service
Like the Boss, we all have our life stuff, but it is not an excuse for not being our best self to our fans. In fact, when we are our best version, our fans fan our purpose even more, just like the Boss sings “I am on Fire”.
Be Your Best Self More Often – your fans expect it.
