How to Avoid the Pain of a Fine

When we ask the question, “How are you today?” the answer can be fine. Meaning I am good. All OK here.

The other meaning of fine is quite the opposite. The fine from the government for not obeying rules. Parking fines. Speeding fines. Littering fines. All there to remind us that there are rules in play.

The other day I received the dreaded green windowed envelope in the mail. The speeding fine. No swearing or carry on. This letter of reflection (slow down) was not going to spoil my day.

To remove the pain, I immediately paid the fine and filed the letter.

Instead of ruminating on the fine, which was my own fault, I removed it from my world by paying it. This kept my best self intact and ready to be productive in areas that make others happy.

If we look at each negative situation as a learning and reflective opportunity, we can have our best self visible on a regular basis. Simply ask yourself 2 questions:

“What did I learn from this?”

“What would I do differently?”

By answering these questions, we have grown that little bit more.

The more we learn the better we are. The better we feel the more fulfilled we become.

The more we are fulfilled the more we show our best self.

We all have treasure chests of memories that we are grateful for. We just don’t open the lid enough times to extract the goodness that made those treasured moments.
