The Must-Have Communication Framework for School Improvement

Most educators are natural learners—driven by a desire to grow, improve, and make a difference. But as noble as school improvement sounds, it often runs into a harsh reality: we're all different. Different priorities. Different ideas. Different approaches.
And when we don't have enough time to talk things through, those differences can lead to frustration, disconnect, and stalled progress. So, here’s the challenge:
If schools are constantly on the journey of improvement, how can we make that journey together… if we barely have time to meet?
How do we harness the knowledge of the many to benefit the whole
At the start of every Culture Workshop, I ask staff to split into four groups based on years of teaching experience:
1–5 years
6–10 years
11–15 years
16+ years
We then multiply the number of people in each group by the average of their experience (e.g. 3, 5, 13, and 18 years). The results are always impressive. The collective teaching wisdom in the room usually ranges from 176 to 467 years.
Why does this matter? Because these educators—the ones in the thick of it, at the heart of the school—are your improvement strategy. Their insights, expertise, and lived experience aren’t just valuable—they're essential.
Enter: The School Meeting Ecosystem.
This is not just another meeting schedule. It's a practical, structured communication framework designed to make the most of your existing time—so the right voices are heard and the right decisions are made.
The above image breaks down each communication opportunity in your school calendar and outlines the who, what, and when of every interaction.
Why is this crucial? Because every improvement initiative needs a vehicle—somewhere to discuss it, shape it, challenge it, and ultimately drive it forward.
The School Meeting Ecosystem is that vehicle.
It helps principals share key messages, create space for collaboration, and promote staff accountability—all while reducing workload and preventing meeting fatigue.
